A Dreamy Family Session in the Tall Grass & Along the Shore | West Coast Florida
There is something so magical about documenting a family exactly as they are in this season of life—busy, beautiful, a little wild, and completely full of love. This recent family session with mom, dad, and their four littles was the perfect example of that magic unfolding naturally.
We spent the evening exploring a golden field of tall grass before making our way to the beach, capturing a mix of playful adventure and heartfelt connection every step of the way.
Let Them Be Little
One of my biggest tips for family sessions—especially with multiple young children, is to embrace the chaos. The laughter, the running, the curious exploring… that’s where the real memories live.
This sweet family leaned into the experience. Instead of forcing stiff poses, we let the kids lead the way:
- Running through the tall grass
- Picking up shells along the shore
- Snuggling into mom and dad in between adventures
Those in-between moments? That’s where the magic happens.
A Perfect Blend: Field + Beach
Choosing a location that offers variety can completely elevate your gallery. Starting in a field of tall grass gave us:
- Warm, golden tones
- Soft, dreamy textures
- Space for movement and play
Then transitioning to the beach brought:
- Cool coastal breezes
- Open skies and soft pastel tones
- A calming, grounded ending to the session
If you’re planning your own session, I always recommend locations that allow for this kind of natural flow and storytelling.
Styling Matters (And I Make It Easy for You)
One of the biggest stressors for families when planning a session is what to wear—but it truly doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
For this session, mom chose one of the pieces from my client closet, and it tied everything together so effortlessly. Neutrals, flowy fabrics, and subtle textures created that dreamy, cohesive look without feeling overly “matched.”
I offer a thoughtfully curated client closet with 50+ dresses and two-piece options for women, along with a growing collection for littles—designed to take the pressure off you and save you both time and money. I absolutely love helping style my families so everything feels seamless and beautifully put together.
Why my clients love the client closet:
- No need to shop or stress over finding the “perfect” outfit
- Pieces are hand-selected to photograph beautifully
- Coordinating the whole family becomes simple
- It saves both time and money
Pro styling tips (whether you use the closet or your own pieces):
- Stick to a cohesive color palette (creams, neutrals, earthy tones)
- Avoid bold patterns or logos (i.e. Team logos, sports jerseys, etc)
- Choose pieces that allow movement (especially for little ones)
- Start with mom’s outfit, then build everyone else around it!!!
And remember—your outfits should complement the environment, not compete with it. When everything flows together naturally, your images will feel timeless, effortless, and true to your family.
Go With the Flow
With four littles, flexibility is key. We followed their energy:
- When they wanted to run—we ran
- When they needed a break—we slowed down
- When they wanted cuddles—we captured it
This approach creates authentic images that feel like you, not forced or overly posed versions of your family.
Why These Moments Matter
Life moves quickly, especially in the thick of raising young children. The tiny hands, the giggles, the way they reach for you—these moments are fleeting.
Photographs freeze those memories in time.
This session was a beautiful reminder that you don’t need perfection to create something meaningful. You just need connection, movement, and a willingness to be present with the people you love most.
Planning Your Own Family Session
If you’re considering a family session, here are a few quick tips to make the most of it:
- Choose a time close to sunset for the best light
- Don’t stress about perfect behavior—kids will be kids and that OKAY!
- Focus on connection over perfection
- Trust your photographer to guide you naturally
